Be the change ......

I am doing a multi media online course with Catherine Scanlon over at The Creative Classroom and this is my first assignment. As many of you know I just love Catherine's work and so I really wanted to find the time to do this course.

There are so many layers on this piece.  I didn't have a canvas so I used a piece of 8" x 8" very heavy watercolour paper.  The first layer is a collage of dictionary and music paper, overlaid with colour.  I had problems getting muted colours from my watercolour sticks, so I used Distress Inks which did move around a bit when I put the Multi Medium layers on.  My stamping is all on tissue tex and layered over the first two layers and then there are other layers of music paper, collage and perfect pearls.

The embossing on the right hand side was done through a Glimmer Mist stencil with a pearl dabber but I didn't like the colour so ovelaid the stencil again and tried Wild Honey Distress Ink.  I was still not satisfied with that so overlaid the stencil yet again and tried Blue Sapphire Distress Ink.  Amazing how you can keep building up the colours until you get something you can live with.

This was fun to do although I had to think very hard about my composition.  I can't wait to start this week's assignment which is more abstract.

Lovely scene Jennie. Not sure if you know this, but if you rub your watercolour crayons say on a tile for instance and add a little water they will blend perfectly. Sorry if you already knew this. Annette x
