Birdcage Canvas

I am doing a short online course with Donna Salazaar at My Creative Classroom - Mixed Media Die Cuts.  I really wanted to use my die cuts in a more artistic way, so I thought this would be a good introduction.

Week 1 is canvas and unfortunately I had to substitute a few things, but I did follow the techniques through.  We used the reverse of the canvas and covered the outer edges with muslin and gesso.  Unfortunately my muslin was cream, so I had to use quite a bit of gesso.  AND .... I got a bit carried away and added some lace and scrim as well!  I sprayed it with Perfect Pearls Biscotti Spray and it really does shimmer.

I had great fun putting together the inner and outer areas of the frame - so very much NOT like Donna's but that is what it is all about really.  I used die cuts for the bird and banner and of course the flowers and leaves.  This was my last Dusty Attic birdcage so I wanted to use it for something special.

Some lovely light relief from my directing/producing the local panto ................ oh yes it is!!

So beautiful Jennie! I love the textures and the soft colours make it a gorgeous dreamy piece. You should design for Crafty Individuals - they need you!
