My First Altered Bottle!

I have wanted to do a bottle make-over for some time and after seeing Brenda Brown's lovely altered bottles when I visited her back in October I knew I had to have a go!

I had no idea how this was going to turn out so I took hardly any photographs of the creating process - it sort of just happened!

This month's mood board at Swirlydoos was a great inspiration and as soon as I saw I knew I wanted to use it! Just made for me!

I started with a very basic bottle and painted it first with gesso to give it a base (I had no idea whether this would adhere to the glass but it did).

Then I gave it a couple of coats of Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Paint in Victorian Lace (love this colour).

Then it was down to decorating. I have such a lovely collection of lace it was easy to find lots of pieces to use.

The photograph is my husband's grandmother possibly taken in about 1920 (she had obviously not been overtaken by the fashions of the period!)

I made the flowers (tutorial here) by first blending Victorian Velvet Distress Ink around the edges before spritzing.

It took a while to get the frame to stick to the rounded bottle shape especially as the photograph made it quite thick. I used Liquitex Heavy Gel and tied it on and that seemed to work!

My mother in law gave me a box of pearls many years go - necklaces which needed re-stringing but I have never got around to it.

This piece fitted beautifully without having to cut into the pearls. My husband believes that this might have belonged to his grandmother, so a lovely addition.

I really enjoyed this make-over and can't wait to start another! I visited our local fabric shop yesterday and eyed up all the lace - I feel a whole new area of crafting coming on. Now to look for some interesting bottles!

Thank you for joining me today - I really appreciate your visits and your comments.

Have a lovely weekend.
