The Look of Spring

Hello and welcome on this first day of April!

No jokers for you here but time to let you know that we have a new challenge for you over at Country View Challenges it being the first day of the month and Monika is our host and she has chosen Spring for our April theme.

Spring is a little later here in the very north of the UK but the one thing that I always love to see at this time of the year (well on other people's sheds and fences!) is the effect the severe winter weather has had on paint especially now that we tend to use some lovely colours on our garden sheds and fences. So I decided to make a set of ATCs to try and create this lovely worn look.

I really love my friend Jenny's fabulous weathered wood technique which she shared with us over at Frilly and Funkie and decided to give it a go but with a gesso resist base and using DecoArt Fluid Acrylics instead.

Unfortunately I have no "how to" photographs as it all happens rather quickly but after laying a random coat of gesso over the cardstock with an old credit card, I brayered DecoArt Cobalt Turquoise Hue, Diarylide Yellow and Titanium White lightly over the top. Once it was dry I followed Jenny's technique for creating the wood effect creases using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

On this ATC I have used slightly less paint for a lighter look.

The paint effect is so fabulous I didn't really want to cover it up with much more than a sentiment and a flower.

On this ATC I have used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Paints to create a similar effect, so have a look through your stash to see what you might be able to use. I got quite carried away!

A slightly different take on the Spring theme! but lots of fun.

I do hope you will join us in our challenge as the theme really does lend itself to many different interpretations and projects. Hop on over to our blog to see how the team have interpreted the theme and also to say hello to our new Design Team members. I am sure you are going to love their work.

Thank you for joining me today and as usual for the first of the  month will be back shortly with another challenge for you!

Your weathered wood panels look absolutely stunning, Jennie - wonderful adaptation of Jenny's technique. I think the final one is my absolute favourite, but they're all just lovely.

Gorgeous ATC's Jennie, you have done a superb job with this painted weathered board look which is one of my favourites I use this technique a lot on my cards I love it so much. Lovely the way you have only added a sentiment and flower to complete the look, I too think this is just enough. Mo x

As per, Jennie , your atc's are Stunning! I have to keep scrolling back to see them over and over. I love that you adorned them so simply but with such 'emotive' quotes.
This for me is Creativity at its finest ( as is most of your work)
