Winter Magic

December - the start of winter and of course Christmas ....
... and also the start of a brand new challenge at A Vintage Journey which this month is

Winter Magic!

For us in the northern hemisphere December brings the start of winter and for many that means freezing cold weather and Christmas. But winter is so much more than that and so we ask, how would you interpret the magic of winter - snow, icicles, colours of blue, silver and white, the festivities of Christmas, misty winter landscapes. Just show us your magical focus for the season in a vintage; shabby; mixed media; art journaling, industrial or steampunk style.

Debs is hosting this wonderful theme and I had great fun making this little winter scene to sit on the mantlepiece of our lovely Victorian sitting room.

As we draw nearer to the shortest day there is a distinct lack of daylight hours here in the very north. So I am afraid there are no step by steps, in fact it was difficult to even get these pictures!

I started with a piece of greyboard and die cut the Tim Holtz Iron Gate and then a platform for it to sit into. Everything got a coat of brown paint and then I used DecoArt Acrylic Paint over the whole piece. It was not easy painting this onto the Gate so it is a bit lumpy in places, but amazingly this just adds to the wintery feel.

And then I had fun decorating it!

A cluster of flowers and berries - coated with gesso and a little silver Stickles here and there.

A Calico Craft Parts Snowflake adding a bit of height.

More Calico Craft Parts pieces - two gorgeous corners and mini letters.

I do hope you find time to join us in our challenge even though it is a busy month with the lead up to Christmas.  Do hop on over to the challenge post for all the details and to see all the stunning projects from the rest of the AVJ Creative Guides. You can't fail to be inspired!

Thank you for joining me today and have a great weekend when it arrives - although it looks as though we have a wet and windy forecast!
