It's all about the Journey .......

Hello to you all and welcome to another new challenge at A Vintage Journey. My heavens how the months are whizzing by!

The irrepressible Nikki is our host this month and she is asking us to use

CANVAS

Let's work with canvas this month in our vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journal, industrial, timeworn or steampunk style. It doesn't matter how, as long as some canvas is a dominant feature of your project.  Perhaps you may use canvas in the traditional way or use the reverse to create a shadow box? Canvas boards are fabulous to work on or perhaps you have some canvas sheets which can be cut and adhered to another surface.

Shimmers Paints are our sponsors this month and there is the chance to win a $25 dollar voucher and the chance to join be chosen as a Creative Guide Pinworthy.

I decided to use a canvas board for my project - this one measures 5" x 7" and is a great size for mixed media layering. The board was already primed with gesso so I got straight in and added some texture paste and then a good shake of PaperArtsy Infusions (Rusty Brown) with plenty of water.

A little bit of text stamping here and there and that was it done!

I was recently given a little money gift and decided to treat myself to a three month subscription to one of the monthly craft box companies - Craft Box. This was the most vintage company I could find which suited my style, but more than anything with no chance to visit craft shops or shows I thought it would be great to have a surprise box each month with lovely embellishments and products. I have not been disappointed! I decided though that I needed to stop looking at everything and actually use some of it!

So these are a few of the embellishments I chose.

There was also a lovely wooden frame included in one of the monthly boxes. It was a little small for the canvas, so I cut it in half so it just pokes out top and bottom.

This is a bit photo heavy but I thought you might like to see the layers which contributed to the finished piece.

This was the base layer - I had an idea where everything was going, hence the floating lace!  The lace was soaked in the Rust Brown Infusions.

The little wooden frame embellishment came next.

By this stage there was quite a bit of depth so the metal and Prima clock had to be stuck down with some heavy gel.

Finally I stamped my sentiment and layered it on some heavy greyboard.

I tucked some muslin in amongst the layers too and added this gorgeous little cotton reel with some hessian twine - so cute!

I did go in with gesso once everything was well stuck down but just here and there as I didn't want to overpower it.

I just LoVE this little cameo!

You can see how raised the layers are and having started with a canvas board means that they have a good level of support.

I have really enjoyed using some of my lovely surprise products! There are still plenty more left so I must get on and use them.

And so ..... back to the challenge .... it goes without saying that you should hop on over to the challenge blog for details of the challenge and to see the wonderful inspirational projects the rest of the team has created. Not to be missed !

Have a great weekend and thank you for joining me today.
