Inky Wings

Hello and welcome!

We have a fabulous new challenge over at A Vintage Journey which starts today. The lovely Annie is our host this month and she is challenging us to create along the theme of Inky Wings.

Make any project you like! as long as ink and wings are included in some way. This includes backgrounds, stamped images, art journals and portions of your project coloured with any kind of ink. So get creative within our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journalling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

As always my fellow Creative Guides have created some amazing projects so hop on over to A Vintage Journey to hear more about our challenge from Annie and to be inspired!

I decided to use this challenge as means of challenging myself to go "back to basics" and create with my lovey Distress Inks which I seem to have neglected recently.

I gathered a few of my favourite colours: Broken China, Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber and Cracked Pistachio and went back to the good old Wrinkle Free Distress Technique and created my background for the tag. Then I stamped my all time favourite stamp in black ink.

There's a little background stamping with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and I mopped up the inks on my matt with my ribbon. Everything I always used to do but hadn't in a while!

I made a separate layer of the wings which I inked delicately with the same inks and then spritzed with Perfect Pearls Biscotti Mist (I had to really hunt for that in the drawer!)

Finally I used a quote from one of Alison's (Words & Pictures) new stamp set "Travel and Journeys" which sits well over the background stamping.

So a bit of a trip down memory lane but a good challenge to get my Distress Ink mojo back again!

I do hope you will join us in this month's challenge and perhaps like me get out some of the old favourites you haven't used in a while.

Have a great weekend and hopefully some crafting fun!

Just gorgeous, Jennie! I know exactly what you mean about drifting away from Distress Inks into all the excitement of mixed media textures and layers, and then coming back and realising what joy and beauty there is in just the simplicity of inking and stamping. And that's definitely what you've got here... gorgeous colours, the lovely layered dimension added to the magical dragonfly stamps and such pretty dyed ribbons. A really lovely tag!

What a beautiful tag Jennie, your delicate dragonfly looks like she is about to take flight. Love your Distress Ink background, although I love all of Tim's Distress products, his Inks are still my very favourite because of the beautiful translucent backgrounds you can achieve just like you have here. Thanks so much for sharing it, Deb xo

Such a soft and pretty tag Jennie, the perfect background for that delicate dragonfly stamp, a gorgeous project, love it! Like others have said, Distress Inks will always be my go to medium too, there is something about the quality of light coming through, that other products just don't achieve in the same way, and cetainly this is the perfect medium for the lovely dragongly...
