Week 3 with Donna

Well even more flowers this week - super rolled roses.  Again great fun to make and the little ones are really cute!  I used some flowers made last week to finish the page.

I love the "watery" look achieved by spraying with water before using the glimmer mist.  I've had the Cranberry Zing Glimmer Mist for a long time but hadn't used it as it seemed too dark.  It looks lovely on the large flower.

All these lovely techniques really make you look at your supplies and think how you can use them differently.  I am just LOVING this course!

And this is the second page - creating a journal pocket.  I don't have Donna's products so I've made my own journal pocket and a couple of tags to go inside it.  I have decorated the front of the pocket with a couple of my own style rolled roses which I make from a twisted piece of paper.

Donna Salazar Week 2

More great techniques this week!

This first page used photographs or pictures which were covered with a thick coat of Glossy Accents.  Donna's advice was to apply the image with glossy accents before cutting off the background, which certainly makes it easier to cut out.  It does mean you can use pictures from magazines and books as well.  Again I didn't have some of the lace or pearl embellishments so improvised.

Page 2 and what lovely paper flowers!  These will fast become a favourite.  I used the Spellbinders Blossom Die to cut out different sizes of flower and used paper from an old book.  The idea was to use her Crafty Chronicle, but it is so lovely I don't want to cut it up!  The flowers were then spritzed with water and then Glimmer Mists, so it is more of a "watery" colour.   Then flowers (while wet) were then screwed into a tight ball to allow the colours to blend and absorb into the paper.   Whilst they were still wet the flowers were placed on some glue and the centres gradually pinched to create the flower centre. They really are so pretty.  I made a whole load and can see I'll be making alot more!

Donna Salazar

A long time since I posted anything!  On Thursday I started an online course with Donna Salazar through the Creative Classroom.  Six weeks doing "Artsy Fartsy Techniques - two pages each week which will then be bound into a book.  I don't have most of the things on her supplies list so I am improvising!

I made the journal cards (on her suggestion) with heavy watercolour paper, stamped with Timber Brown Staz On using some much loved stamps.  These are her first week techniques:

This page is spritzed with Candlelight and Vintage Pink Glimmer Mists.  The technique was based around using vintage frames or making your own from Tim Holtz fragments and metal tape.  My tape was gold so I coloured it with Ginger Alcohol Ink.

The second page was first sprayed with water and screwed up into a ball.  After flattening out and whilst still wet it was spritzed with Moonlight, Slate and Antique Brass Glimmer Mists, then lightly brushed with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink to highlight the creases.

I hunted in the wardrobe for some old jeans and made the flower from a pair of mine and the leaves and strip from a pair of Terry's!  The flower is based on the Tim Holtz Grungepaper flower.  I sprayed it with Antique Brass Glimmer Mists when complete to give it a bit of an older look.  Love it!

Can't wait for next week's techniques.
