The Art of Subtraction .....................

A very short post to share some "journal style art" I've been doing with Catherine Scanlon-Matthews at My Creative Classroom.  This week on the course Journal to Art, we have been doing finger painting and tried the art of subtraction - sounds difficult, no!

I am really quite taken with the the art of subtraction - laying lots of lovely colours on paper ..............

Then when the paper is dry looking for shapes within the colours which you can then "subtract", painting white paint or gesso in the negative spaces.  With me so far ...........

Anyway this is a really fun course and I have found that I love this style of art journalling

Tomorrow my four fabulous schoolfriends arrive here in Shetland (from Switzerland, France and Suffolk, England) and we are staying in a Lighthouse for the week, enjoying each other's company and hopefully doing some interesting walks around Shetland's coastline.  We have an absolutely fabulous boat trip lined up for Monday - watching seals, orcas (killer whales) and the fabulous birdlife on the cliffs of Bressay.

And guess what - it has stopped raining and the sun has just come out.  BRILLIANT!!

Have a wonderful week everyone! x
