Be Who You Are ......

Another month and another new challenge over at Country View Crafts.  And for me another scheduled post as I am still sailing the high seas! This month's challenge is FAMOUS QUOTATIONS and it is going to be fascinating to see what you all make of this challenge as I am sure we all have some favourite family quotes.

My parents and grandparents always instilled in us that we should be proud of who we were and so when I saw this quote:

The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are (Joseph Cambell)

on the Graphic45 Quotations sheet I just had to use it for a scrapbook layout.
I decided to go for a kraft brown look with cream and a single colour to brighten it up as I really didn't want to cut into this wonderful Graphic45 Elusive Wings sheet.  This photograph of my Nana taken in 1927 is a family favourite and was just perfect - my grandfather having painted the black and white photograph to get this yellow tinge.

There are some strategically placed flowers at the top of the photograph as the photograph is stuck in a frame and we daren't take it out so this is a photograph of the photograph in a frame!  The lower butterfly on the layout is also covering a bit of a mess where I tried to watercolour the butterflies which the kraft cardstock wouldn't take!  One learns!

I am really into making these muslin leaves.  I have used the Tattered Leaves die to cut them but any leaf shape would do.  I then spritzed some Vintage Photo Distress Ink on my craft mat and added some water and basically just squished them around until they were covered and then dried them with a heat gun - be careful as they can burn!

There is a flower tutorial for the roses on my sidebar.

I hope you have fun with this challenge and be sure to pop over to the Country View Crafts Challenge site as the rest of the Design Team have made some amazing pieces and there will be more coming up through the month.

I may be home soon!

Completely beautiful, Jennie... I can see why you couldn't bear to cut in to that music paper, and it makes a stunning background for your gorgeously framed photo... the flowers, as ever, are lovely, and I love those muslin leaves.

Happy Sailing!

Jennie what a lovely piece. Aren't the tattered florals and leaves just the best dies. I love all your fabric inclusions.
Hope you have calm seas and fair winds.
