Spring Colours

Hello Everyone! and welcome to another new challenge over at A Vintage Journey. Astrid is our host this month and she has chosen the theme
Spring Colours
Create a project of your choice using spring colours. The wonderful range of Distress products provide so many wonderful colour choices, just make sure that Tim's style is evident in whatever you make.

 In Shetland Spring can be quite late, in fact some years we haven't had one, just going straight from winter to summer! Being so far north our summer is probably akin to most people's spring anyway! But what I love about spring here is the light nights and how the colour changes dramatically - the blues of the sky and sea, the bright yellow of the sand and the gorgeous greens on the hill. There are no flowers in the garden except daffodils and the shrubs and bushes are just turning green, so there is a great feeling of yellow and green in the garden. 

With these colours in mind I decided to alter a Cabinet Card Frame. Instead of a photograph I made an insert. I managed to squeeze some Versamark ink through the Wildflower Stencil and then used white embossing powder to create a resist. Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw, Faded Jeans, Stormy Sky and Vintage Photo gave me some lovely background colours and the white resist just popped off the page!

The Iron Gate die fitted perfectly into the frame too and then it was down to making flowers.

I couldn't quite make daffodils! so had to settle for my usuals. I wanted something quite soft so squished and spritzed Scattered Straw Distress Ink onto my craft mat and laid the Tattered Florals die cuts down onto the ink before scrunching them up.

Spring Greenery die cuts were also inked in the same way. I just used Peeled Paint Distress Ink but got quite a varied selection of greens.

I love the way the cabinet card frames this little project and have an idea to make one for each season as a set.

These colours are the best ever. I love the combination of the sky and the flowers. You are the master when it comes to flowers and this piece is prof of that.

This is lovely Jennie! Never thought to use a cabinet card alone as a frame for a card - love the picket fence peeking out behind your beautiful cluster of flowers, your lovely background and all the texture with the netting and foliage! I have been watching the TV show Shetland here on our BBC channel - you live in a beautiful, magical place! hugs, Julia xx

This creation is very unique because it isn't bright and it isn't dark - it is just RIGHT. Just like the in between times from the showers to the flowers! It's peaceful and pretty. It's special. j.

Oh, Jennie - this just makes my heart sing! The beautiful softness of the colour tones and inky spottings and dottings are all just perfect, and I love the delicate beige of the frame too. A wonderful showcase for that fab stencil and your glorious roses.

Completely AMAZING, Jennie!! My goodness, your description of your Shetland Spring is very much like the typical Spring here in North Idaho--from snow to Summer, then back to snow :) I love the muted colors you've used and your resist background panel--GORGEOUS! Gosh, another fabulous idea to be gained from my wonderful teammate! I hated having to sit this challenge introduction out, but I'm loving what you all have made for Astrid's challenge. XOXO-Shari

Jennie, your flowers are always so delicate and elegant! I love the layers of colors with the Wildflower stencil! The added fence is a nice embellishment! So pretty!
