Stencil It !
And so we start another month! and of course it is a new challenge at A Vintage Journey.

I decided I wanted to make a canvas panel but which had a Mediterannean Stucco Wall feel about it but using different stencils to create the texture. Hmmmmm ..... well that idea didn't quite materialise as you will see! (It has been a week of embracing imperfection ..... in my craft, spinning and knitting!)
This is quite a large canvas at 8" x 10" but I thought it would give me a chance to use lots of different stencils. As you can see I stuck some music paper and Tim Holtz Botanical Tissue Paper on the canvas first before giving everything a coat of gesso. Then I started adding texture with my stencils.
More texture was added using some block and dot stencils and then I sprayed withVintage Photo Distress Ink Spray and a Cinnamon coloured 13Arts spray. I really quite liked this look but it didn't look good with the embellishments I was proposing.
So everything got another coat of gesso ......... which meant I lost all the layers underneath, although you can just about see them in places.
Finally I added some stamping in brown Archival Ink, sometimes stamping off to get a softer impression and adding one or two at "full strength".
I wanted to be able to use this beautiful text embellishment which I have had for years but didn't have a big enough project for. I have painted the text with 13Arts Vivid Vintage Paint which had dried up a bit in the pot but which did give a nice rusty earthy finish.
I feel it sits well with the lighter colours behind and am pleased that I did gesso everything out!
I wanted a small light cluster around the clock stencil at the bottom of the canvas and again have had this very fragile wooden cut out for ages waiting for the right project to use it as again it is quite large.
I am actually very pleased with the final look and it goes well in the room I was intending it for. Just goes to show that not all things go to plan and it is important to "find beauty in all things"!

Create a project using at least one stencil, in a style that fits our challenge focus - vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk. There are so many possibilities to be create with stencils on your cards, journals, layouts, ATCs or 3D projects. Stencils offer endless possibilities, so be creative and have fun!
