Wallet Journal

Hello Everyone and welcome to another new month and another new mini album for the Mini Album Maker's Challenge.

Yet again my lovely team mates at Mini Album Maker's have a wonderful array of mini albums for your inspiration and I hope you pop over to see them all by clicking the link HERE.

Last weekend Shetland Scrapbookers had their yearly weekend get-together and I was asked to put together a mini album for the Saturday session. They were particularly keen to have a Book in A Pocket, however, this turned out to be a Book in a Wallet! I don't think anyone was disappointed though!

I also decided to use some papers which I bought many years ago and which at the time were such huge favourites that I couldn't bear to use them. But my taste has changed and I thought it was about time they got used!

The wallet opens to reveal an inside pocket for tags ........

....... and a flip page journal inside.

The inside journal wallet is not unlike my "book, within a box, within a journal" I shared with you in  September which you can see if you click the link HERE. However this is slightly smaller in both measurement and pages and is housed within its own wallet, which is a handy size to take away on holiday.

So here are the details of how I made it:

For the outer wallet cover:
cut a piece of cardstock 6" x 11" then score at 4", 4 1/2", 8 1/2" and 9".

Inside pocket: cut a piece 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" and score the side edge at 3/4".
Mark 1/2" at the top and 2" from the bottom right and cut away this piece.

Using tape attach this to the outer wallet on the left hand and bottom edges.

For the inside wallet cover:
cut a piece 9" x 5 1/2" and score at 1 1/2", 1 3/4" 5 1/4" and 5 1/2"

 Inside Pocket: cut a piece of cardstock 5 1/2" x 2" ......

...... and attach to the larger side of the inside wallet.

For the inner book: cut a piece of cardstock 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" and score at 3 1/4".

For the flop out pages:
cut one piece of cardstock 6" x 3" and score at 1/2"
cut a second piece 3 1/2" x 3" and score at 1/2"

Adhere the 1/2" flaps to the book page to provide to flaps.

Close the book and add this to the inside wallet cover.

Finally close the inside wallet and attach this to the outside wallet cover
(in the middle rather than where I have "posed" it for the photograph!!)

Now you have your base book to decorate as you wish.

I found it easier to decorate the inner wallet and book before adding it to the outside wallet and tucking some ribbon underneath as a closure before sticking it down onto the outside wallet.

I chose to close the outer wallet with magnets for a clean look.

And here are some of the lovely books made by the members of Shetland Scrapbookers.

Each one so very different!

As always thank you for joining me today and I hope you find some time to join us
in our challenge this month.

Happy crafting!

Jennie this is so beautiful, a great way to use those lovely papers too! You make something that looks very complicated, feel achievable, and this is one I have bookmarked for future reference. The ladies certainly did you proud, their mini books look wonderful. Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. Hugs, Anne xx
I have to make this! Love the soft colors and image you chose for this book. And that middle flip is wonderful! Thanks for the great instructions.

This is a beauty, Jennie - such pretty colours (just too late for the Box of Eggs challenge at PA, but perfect for it!), and so elegant.

Such a marvelous design and I'm smitten with the fact that this is merely folded cardstock! I'm so glad you gave in to using the paper, as it is the star of the show paired with your gorgeous paper dolls. I love seeing the variety of designs from your scrap group - what fun! Thanks so much for this wonderful tutorial. Hugs, Autumn
