I Remember Mama .......
Hello and welcome. Some of you will be aware that this last week I have been treading the boards at our local theatre in our latest production, I Remember Mama. It is a lovely play set in Los Angeles in 1910 and tells the story of a Norwegian immigrant family, their trials, tribulations and loves.
I decided to make a book for our fabulous producer, with a page dedicated to each of the characters where we could each pen a memory of the play. Photographs were sourced from the internet for all the characters and also for the backstage crew.
As today is the first day of a new challenge at Mini Album Makers I thought I would share the book with you - how I personalised the book for the play and how I have created the covers. But first let me urge you to hop on across to our main blog post HERE as my fellow Design Team members have, as always, made some gorgeous mini albums.
Eileen Hull is our sponsor this month and so I am also pleased to be using her Passport Die - I think my favourite of all of them (although ask me next month and it will probably be the Journal !).
The Passport Die created a book which was just a perfect size for me to add papers in three signatures for all the individual members of the cast and crew - I did bunch up the backstage a bit though .....
Each page was decorated with a suitable photograph of the character which allowed the person playing that character to write a memory or thank you. I played the part of Jessie Brown.
I used the lovely Gibson Girl stamp to make cards for all the female members of the cast and also used this quote which really does sum up the play.
Morag, our producer, has been making us work hard on our characters, working out who we are, and how we relate to each other. She made us think about a "colour" for our character which was quite interesting and then we had to think of a colour which summed up the play. The general feeling was that it was rusty golden browns with maybe a bit of dark brown and vintage pink ...... that was all I needed to make me think of making a book!
The covers were first gessoed and texture added by way of texture paste through a lovely vintage stencil. I then painted everything with Fresco Finish Chalk Paint (Colour Chalk) as I love the way the paint takes PaperArtsy Infusions. Rust Brown Infusions was just the perfect colour and I love how the colours can be varied in different areas.
I used the same Infusions to colour some ribbon ....
.... and also the paint the spine. I love how Infusions turn out when used with a paintbrush. Almost a wood effect without even trying!
And here are some of the details of the embellishments on the cover.
I was very pleased with the way the book became such a focal point for everyone's thankyou's and memories of the play. It was much loved by Morag when she received it at the final night party.
As always thank you for joining me today and I wish you a very happy April with lots of crafting.
