Inspired By .......

Who or what are you inspired by ?  the current challenge over at Anything But a Card.  And what a lovely opportunity to be able to thank Catherine Scanlon for being the one person who has opened up so many different avenues to me.

Catherine teaches at My Creative Classroom and I have done quite a number of courses with her and I have enjoyed every one, but the one class which was the "light bulb moment" was her doodling into journalling class.  I spent two glorious weeks doodling and then we started painting.   I just love this negative style of painting, putting the colour onto the page, sometimes with your fingers, then looking for the shapes in the colours and painting the rest of the page out with gesso.

This page started as a bit of an experiment as I wanted to see what would happen if I used this style of journalling on dictionary paper.  It has worked well in places, but as I tore my paper into strips it hasn't always stuck down well and did lift in places with all the water I chucked at it!

I would recommend a visit to Catherine's blog:  Art from the Heart as her flower painting and journalling are amazing.  She uses wonderful vibrant colours and her pages are alot of fun.

Thank you Catherine x

I love your doodling and watercolouring on dictionary text - who cares about a little bit of ripple in the paper... it all adds to the feel of it - gorgeous work, Jennie!

This is lovely Jennie. The colours are vibrant, yet subtle at the same time. It has the look of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh design.
