Nothing Can Dim the Light

Hello Everyone and how good it is to be back home! (despite a fabulous time sailing the west coast of Scotland).

Before I share my project today I would like to thank you for all your comments and visits while I have been away - I really do appreciate it. And I also want to give a HUGE welcome to the new followers who have started following over the last six weeks either through Blogger, Bloglovin or email. I really appreciate you joining me on this crafty journey - who knows where it will go next!!

And so onto my project. It is my turn today to share another DT piece for Country View Challenges and as our theme is Word Play I am sharing another journal page in the style of Finnabair. I am still very much a learner of this style (I will explain some of the problems I experienced with this page) but I am finding the whole process so very enjoyable and extremely liberating!

I am sorry there are not many photos of how I got to this stage - but you tend to get taken along by the process and before you know it you've finished! I started with some script paper and I blended various Distress Inks and spritzed it lightly to blend. I should have realised at this stage that the paper was really too thin, but as I say "carried away"! One or two strips of tissue tape, then added a little interest with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink and my favourite compass mask and Vintage Photo and the Splatters mask. Finally I added some Crackle Paste through the Harlequin mask over the top.

Decorating Finn style came next with two little collages of bits of labels, lace, prima flowers, some paper buttons (another mistake!) and some torn strips of paper.

Then I sprayed! Just my own made sprays from various re-inkers, but sadly in places they just soaked into the paper and I was in danger of ending up with a pile of mushy bits!

The photograph is of my mother-in-law taken in 1927 - she looks so glamorous! The original photograph has a big crease in the middle of it, but for a small page like this it works very well and you can hardly see it.

I left everything to dry overnight, thinking that I might have to start again, but when I returned in the morning it didn't look too bad! and I managed to attach both pages to some heavier weight card to give it a little strength.

By this stage I thought I had nothing to lose and so stamped my quote directly onto the page! I love this quote of Maya Angelou's and feel that I could use it over and over again.

And so … the moral of the story is to really think about the weight of papers when attempting a sprayed layout! Just common sense really, but I find that is something that never seems to be around when I get stuck in! And … do the gesso stage - I left this out as I wanted to keep the script on the paper visible, but of course this also helps to strengthen the paper.
