Colours of Autumn for A Vintage Journey

Incredibly we are already half way through September and time for another challenge at A Vintage Journey.  The wonderfully talented Astrid has chosen this month's theme which is

Colours of Autumn

Who does not love the beautiful colours that Autumn brings? 

The oranges, muted deep reds and all the many different 

brown and green hues.Tim's Distress range 

should give you many choices.

We want to see your projects incorporating some of these colours, but don't forget this is a shabby vintage challenge, so no brights or cute please!

I had great fun with this challenge using some of my favourite Distress Colours and making this wallet from a giant tag.

This is quite a photo heavy post as I actually remembered to get the camera out as I was going along!

I started with a Ranger Giant Tag scored (sort of) 3" from each side. I used Tim's Texture Paste and the lovely Latticework Mask to get some texture on what will be the two front facing pieces.

I used Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Aged Mahogany Distress Inks and the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique to cover the outside of the tag.

I used more Aged Mahogany around the edges to make it a bit darker and then stamped the Classics #19 Stamp in Picket Fence Distress Paint. Unfortunately this didn't come out very clearly so I very bravely restamped it over the top with Aged Mahogany DI. I quite like the effect! 

A piece of Lattice Die Cut was inked with Aged Mahogany DI and the textured areas rubbed with a little Treasure Gold (it really sparkles!)

Then it was down to making the flowers.I cut a number of Tattered Florals in cream card and then inked them with the same DIs: Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and a little Aged Mahogany around the edge. Both sides were inked as I wanted to roll the edges.

The flowers were spritzed with water on both sides and scrunched up around a small paint brush. You can see how the inks soften with the water.

I used the same inks to colour some seam binding and opened up the flowers once they had dried.

I curled the edges around a knitting needle and then threaded three petals onto these wonderful stamens to create the flower. They remind me so much of the crinkly leaves we have in the garden at this time of the year!

The ribbons and flowers were stuck down onto the front along with a piece of die cut Spring Greenery again coloured with the same inks and a coating of Distress Rock Candy.

I used the same inks and mask on the inside but blended the colours and spritzed with water before stamping with the Classic Stamp.

It is quite amazing how a different technique but the same products creates quite a different feel. I also added an Autumn sentiment.
