And more Butterflies ………...

Today is my turn to share another DT project at Country View Challenges for our Bugs, Bees and Butterflies challenge. I so love the new Tim Holtz Layered Butterfly Die and Embossing Folder I just had to make a frame for it.

I decided to use up some of my favourite stash:

•  my favourite Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Paint - Victorian Lace
• lace, flowers and metal embellishments left over from my Finnabair workshop in May and 
• some additional metal flowers which were a present from Rita.

I started with this cheap wooden frame and gave it a layer of gesso first and then a coat of the Victorian Lace Fresco Finish Paint

I wanted to use the Gothic stencil as an inner frame and although I did take measurements I was slightly squint, but it is possible to lign up the stencil to create a rectangle.  I used Wendy Vecchi Crackle Paste and when dry smudged some Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges and into the crackle. I got rather a lot of ink around the edges too, so I sanded this back and got a lovely distressed edge.

In the Finnabair style I glued all my embellishments onto the frame and gave them two coats of gesso.

When dry I used some Victorian Lace Fresco Paint here and there and then some highlights with Honey Amber Luminarte Silks. I also prepared the background of the inner frame with some Melange Tissue Tape and gave it a coat of gesso to tone it down a bit.

And then the butterfly! I cut and embossed the butterfly with metal and then painted it with the Victorian Lace Fresco Paint.  When dry I gave it all a coat of Rock Candy Distress Crackle.

I felt the butterfly needed a body so used the same paints to alter these lovely scissors purchased from the Funkie Junkie boutique. They are gorgeous and needed a special project!

I really love how the frame turned out and the colours are just fabulous for our sitting room, so it already has a place to reside!
