The Magic of Three
Like everyone else I have been experimenting with the new Distress Oxides and although I only have three colours (so far ...!) I have finally started getting some lovely colourful backgrounds.
As we have a new challenge starting today at A Vintage Journey I thought I would use them to create a masculine tag which is probably destined for a birthday card at some point in the year!
Probably as a throwback to my Planning Design background I am a great fan of using things in threes! Having had the Rule of Thirds drilled into me (in order to combine brevity, rhythm and the smallest amount of pattern - if I remember correctly) I suppose it is no surprise really.
My intention had been to use three tags for this little project, but I ended up using three of a lot more besides!
but I have enjoyed experimenting with them. This was my favourite look where the Broken China and Fossilised Amber had been the main colour ways with the Vintage Photo added and spritzed after I was happy with the overall coverage. Quite bright for me! but I do love the chalky finish and the gorgeous blend of colours which tend not to merge into each other.
I chose three tags which were the closest in terms of colour density.
I then added some texture paste through a stencil although it doesn't pick up the colour underneath in the same way as the ordinary Distress Inks. The text stamping was with ordinary Vintage Photo but I think would have looked as good with the Oxide. I added some tissue tape for a bit of interest too.

The lovely Annie is hosting our challenge this month which is all about .....
THE MAGIC OF THREE
It is said that using three of something adds more interest and power whether it is a conversation, art or numbers. So our challenge is to use three of something (numbers, techniques, stamps, colours, words, products - the list is endless!). All you need to do is let us know your three magic components and ensure that your project is in our vintage; shabby; mixed media; art journalling; industrial, timeworn or steampunk styles that A Vintage Journey favours.
Emerald Creek are our sponsors this month with a lovely prize for one lucky winner and of course there is the opportunity for three Pinworthies to be a Guest Designer at some point in the future.

I have only three colours of Distress Oxides:
Broken China
Fossilised Amber
Vintage Photo

And then the layering of the three tags .......
...... adding three labels .......
.... and three cogs .....
all quite unintentional as I only noticed when the tag was finished!
A side view showing how the foam pads have really given a nice depth to the tag.
As always thank you for joining me and I do hope you find time to play along with our challenge.
Have a great weekend.
