Words and Music .....

Hello and welcome to you all!

Today we start another new challenge at A Vintage Journey. The lovely and so very talented Alison Bomber is our host this month and she has chosen the theme:

Words and Music

We would love to see projects that are inspired by our favourite song or that incorporate musical lyrics or sheet music in their design. Just remember to create your project in our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

What better way to celebrate this challenge theme than to use one of Alison's wonderful music quotes and so I have chosen the one which I love the most and created a birthday card for a musical friend.

Having sung in choirs for years and now learning to play the concertina I am so fully aware of the importance of silence when singing or playing. Building the silence in a piece of music is about creating the emotion, not just the timing. And in fact this week I have been revisiting tap dancing (I used to tap years ago) and the great kick is getting the whole group (there were thirty of us last night) to get the tap together and be silent together! It was great fun, but my knees are now complaining!

I recently found a stash of Prima postcards which I had completely forgotten about and as they are good quality card will take a fair bit of product. I created some texture using a sheet music stencil. Once dry it got a few splatters of Victorian Velvet Distress Ink to shabby it up a bit.

The card is quite small at 6" x 4" so not a lot of space for embellishments but as you know these are some of my favourites:

.....one of my handmade roses .......

..... pearl buttons .....

..... an MDF key ...

.... and of course the wonderful quote.

I hope you will be able to join us in our challenge this month as I am sure there is a favourite song or quote that will inspire you. Do hop on over to A Vintage Journey to see some wonderful inspirational pieces from my fellow Creative Guides - they are all very different!

I have a few scheduled posts over the next few days as I am off on my travels to Corsica - a new island to discover and hopefully a warmer one than I am leaving!

Have a great weekend and happy crafting!

What a beautiful arrangement on your lovely card Jennie! The stenciled music adds great texture and so pretty in the white behind your beautiful rose and layerings of other ephemera - I'm sure your friend will treasure this card - and I wish you a wonderful time in Corsica! Sounds quite exotic! Julia xx

I love the stencilled texture notes over the postcard background, and your rose is just exquisite. I couldn't agree more about this quote and your thoughts on silence within music and dance. (Tapping, eh? Get you!) A lovely card. Hope you're enjoying Corsica!
