The Whatevers ......... and the story of Sunniva and the strange feeling of silk ..............
This is my first Whatevers post. Intrigued ? Well I am certainly excited by this challenge by Catherine Scanlon, Natalie Kalbach and Vicki Chrisman ........... the Whatevers is a creative story telling project.
I use alot of vintage photos in my collages and journal pages and often wonder about the story behind the photograph. Well this is the chance to make that story. Each month a "Whatevers" photograph will be provided and you can make a journal page, a scrapbook page, anything you like, as long as you tell the story of the photograph. Such a brililant idea!!!!!
All the details are here on Catherine's blog if you want to join in. Look here if you want to see the journal page Catherine made and links to Natalie and Vicki's pages too. You will also find the linky tool at the bottom of Catherine's page and be able to see other stories that have been posted.
And here is my story for this wonderful photograph. I had no idea where these journal pages were going - I used Rusty Hinge and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks as my paints are packed away and on their way to Orkney on the boat (which I will join next week), so a little bit dark and my PC threw a wobbly when I tried to print the photograph in sepia, so good old Vintage Photo came to the rescue. The good camera is also on the boat!
I have named my two children Sunniva and Magnus and this is the story of Sunniva and the strange feeling of silk .....................
Sunniva shivered ......... shivered again ........... Why had her mother insisted on her removing her wooly semmit so the dress fitted better. It was still March - no one in Shetland removes their semmit even in the summer! It was all right for Magnus he had a nice thick sailor suit and wooly stockings.
But ............... she so loved the beautiful dress which had been borrowed from cousin Mina and more so the strange silky feel of the dress against her skin.
"Finished" said the man behind the photographic contraption. "Oh well" she thought with another shiver "back into the wooly semmit and the fair isle gansey" At least she would be warm, but ......... for a short while envied the posh ladies from the city and their beautiful clothes.
(semmit is the Scottish word for vest!)
I hope you enjoyed this and think about joining in. Thanks for popping by!
