Travelling in Vintage Style
Happy New Year to you all!
May your year be full of happiness,
health and crafting!
and welcome to my first post of the year which is a project for our new challenge at A Vintage Journey which is
Vintage Travel and Luggage
Let your imagination carry you back to the bygone eras setting off on an exciting journey for the New Year. Keeping it in Tim's style, we would love to see what item of luggage or mode of transport you would use on your journey - think hand luggage, travel trunks, hat boxes, hot air balloons, ships and trains.
I have had a little paper mache trunk for absolutely ages, so I thought our current challenge would be a wonderful opportunity to get going and alter it! I am afraid there are no "how to" photographs as the weather has been so dark this last couple of weeks leading up to the shortest day, but I will take you through the steps.
I painted the trunk firstly with Vintage Photo Distress Paint and then covered it randomly using torn up strips of printed Tissue Wrap. I used Ranger Multi Medium to stick everything down and give it all a final coat.
I then gave everything a coat of DecoArt Crackle Glaze. It goes on quite thickly and you really do have to be patient and let it dry! I had to do each side of the box separately so the glaze didn't drip off, but it was worth the long wait.
Once dry and beautifully crackled I rubbed Gathered Twigs Distress Ink all over the trunk to highlight the cracks and "shabby up" the edges. I let everything dry overnight and then gave the trunk a coating of Multi Medium to seal everything.
The trunk is tiny !!! so it didn't need much in the way of embellishment. I still have a few grungeboard pieces left and so I painted these with Distress Paints and gave them a coat of DecoArt Crackle Glaze to give them an aged look.
I also used tissue wrap inside the box too but left it "au natural".
And the trunk is going to be very useful as it holds a huge number of ATC backgrounds all ready to use.
I do hope you will join us in our challenge and for some fabulous inspiration why not hop on over to A Vintage Journey to see the amazing projects created by my Creative Guide teamies.
With very best wishes to you all for this first day of 2016.
